Sometime referred to as the oldest science known to man, Astrology actually goes beyond the daily horoscopes. Thought the latter is entertaining, its roots are of a more serious and complex origin. Astrology is the study of interactions among celestial bodies based on statistical cycles.

Its name is derived from the Greek word astron, which means “star” or “constellation” and -logia which means “study of”. It is said that the position of stars and planets can provide insights on personality, human affairs, past and present events and even the prediction of the future.

The first record of Astrology goes as far back as 1654 BC, predating astronomy and psychology. In its earlier days, the study of stars for counseling was well-known and generally appreciated. It was only during the Renaissance years, that astronomy – the more scientific counterpart – overshadowed astrology.

As the world revolved more towards the sciences, the art of reading stars became less popular. However, in 1930, a renewed interest in astrology was sparked with the birth of Princess Margaret. The London Sunday Express printed her astrological profile to celebrate her birth. That became the beginning of the modern newspaper horoscope section.

There are three main traditions that modern astrologers follow: Vedic astrology, Western astrology and Chinese astrology. All versions share a common heritage of using the horoscopic system – an astrological chart representing the celestial entities. The main difference is in reading the constellation. Vedic uses sidereal zodiac, the Western version relies on the tropical zodiac, while the Chinese version does not rely on the division of the sky at all, but rather by the equator.

Today, newspapers and online horoscopes feature 12 star signs that correspond to a person’s date of birth:
Aries – March 21 to April 19
Taurus – April 20 to May 20
Gemini – May 21 to June 21
Cancer – June 22 to July 22
Leo – July 23 to August 22
Virgo – August 23 to September 22
Libra – September 23 to October 22
Scorpio – October 23 to November 21
Sagittarius – November 22 to December 21
Capricorn – December 22 to January 19
Aquarius – January 20 to February 18
Pisces – February 19 to March 20

The Astrology Behind the Financial Crises by Donna Page

In astrology planets are symbolic representations that have uncanny reflections in reality back on earth. There is no scientific basis that we can measure for this; but the symbols and meanings can help us gleam messages that help us understand our world somewhat the same fashion of dream interpretations.

There are two significant astrological events going on that are symbolic of the collapse of established banking and business institutions and the overall financial crises: Pluto in Capricorn and Saturn opposite Uranus. Pluto in Capricorn symbolizes the destruction and transformation of old respected companies, and the total reconstruction of governments. Uranus and Saturn symbolize polarization between the old way and new unpredictable ideas.

Part of this planetary signature is fear based. Saturn is a planet that can indicate fear and scarcity; it is an old school vibration. Uranus is the planet of unpredictable changes and breaking away from tradition. These two planets are aligning opposite each other, in this position they are opponents, who will win? Will it be fear and the old ways or innovation and finding a new path?

The financial crises and bailout is only the tip of the iceberg of the problems the USA will be facing over the next several years. The charts of the US are indicating that there have been many secrets in the banking industry (and secrets regarding USA finances) and everything has not been exposed. The tides will turn even scarier for many people over the next few months.

So what to do? Honor the principles of Saturn and Uranus. How can you work harder and be more productive in your life? What can you eliminate that you are not using? Being conscious of the resources we have is the first step.

The right use of Saturn is using what you have and if you aren't using something donate it. Do not hold onto possessions because you are afraid to let it go, fearing that you might need it for some obscure reason years down the road. Chances are it will only collect dust and clutter up you home. Read the books you already bought before you run to buy more. Use up the food in your cabinets; wear the clothes in your closet or move everything out so others are able to enjoy what you no longer need.

Uranus wants you to invent new ways of living. Do things different, think different, if you are not making enough money for the life you want, do something different. If you are not happy in your relationships, try something different. Break up your old patterns of thinking to allow for major shifts in your life.

Honoring these principles individually we will be able to create a healthy and balanced vibration around ourselves and be able to counteract the fear vibration in the world. Honor Pluto in Capricorn by overthrowing your own inner authority that is no longer supportive or healthy for you. What voice in your mind is telling you that you should do something? Examine the shoulds in your life. Who is telling you that you should? Is it an old outdated program instilled to motivate you through guilt or shame?

What old structure in your life can be revamped? Are your skills outdated? Are you hanging onto old true and blue stocks whose companies can keep pace with the times? Find your inner source of respect and security not contingent upon outside validation. Understanding and working with the planets will support you in moving through these times with ease and grace.

In these uncertain times many people are wondering how safe their job is. If you are wondering whether or not you will be unemployed there are several indicators that you can look for in your astrology chart.

There are three placements that you want to pay attention to when seeking insight into the stability of your employment, the first is the degree and sign of your Sun. The Sun indicates what we do in the day time, how we shine in life, and for most of us that is our job. The second point is your mid heaven, or MC as it is abbreviated. What degree and sign is your MC? The third will be the ruler of your MC, the planet that rules the sign of your mid heaven; you will need to know the degree and sign of that planet.

Once you have written down your Sun sign and degree, your MC sign and degree, and the ruler of your MC sign and degree you will now need to find out where Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto are for the year. Once you determine the placements of the outer planets you will be able to know if they are impacting your sensitive points in your chart that represent your job.

When an outer planet is in a sign either conjunct, opposite, or square one of the symbols you will be able to know that something will be changing with your work. With Uranus, it can be a sudden change, with Saturn possible layoffs but more likely having to work harder with less pay, with Pluto, having to prove to others what you can do, with Neptune uncertainty and situations that you do not know about that will impact your employment, The highest indicator of being laid off is when you have 3 concurrent outer planets to your symbols.

Knowing whether or not your chart is indicating problems with your job will give you the insight and upper hand you need to stay on top of a situation so you can take advantage of opportunities as they come by. If you see Saturn in your chart, this is a time that you will not get away with anything so knowing this you will be able to pass on skipping out of work early thinking it will be OK, it won't.

If your chart is indicating Neptune, then you will know that all is not as it seems. With this information in hand you will know not to accept everything at face value. When the higher ups are saying everything is under control and you sense that it isn't, your gut feeling most likely is right. Neptune can be the trickiest influence to deal with as it is so very elusive.

When you have Uranus to your planets, this is telling you to look at opportunities that may be temporary. It is a time of restlessness and understanding the temporary nature of Uranus will save you much grief. Understand that your need for change can be impulsive and can lead you into a situation that once there you wondered what you did. Knowing that you may have a change of heart a year later will help you determine whether to make the change that look so attractive in a fleeting moment of frustration.

If your chart is being transited with Pluto this can be one of the most significant times of your career in advancement. Knowing this you can gather up your courage to put forth an effort to move forward in your life. Since Pluto is about death and rebirth and knowing that this will be a time to let go and move on will ease the pain and frustration of this energy.

Understanding the influences in your chart helps you gain control over your life, and be in the driver's seat.
